Where it shows
Each item's page pattern decides which pages of your app it can appear on.
Every item has a page pattern, called URL Pattern or Pages in the editor. The item can only appear on pages whose address matches it. * matches anything.
| Pattern | Shows on |
|---|---|
* | Every page |
/app/* | Every page under /app/ |
*/settings/* | Every settings page, on any domain |
https://app.example.com/billing | Only the billing page of that site |
https://app.example.com/reports* | The reports page and everything after it |
#/billing | A hash route, for apps whose addresses look like /#/billing |
You can write a full address or just the path. Trailing slashes are handled for you. A pattern can use up to 10 wildcards.
Tips
- Keep patterns as narrow as the guidance. A tooltip for one button belongs on one page; a welcome tour on the page people land on after signing up.
- A full address with your real domain also lets Preview on site open the right page. Otherwise set your app's address in Settings → Install → Where does your app run?
- If you limited where the snippet may run (Settings → Install → Allowed domains), items only appear on those domains whatever their pattern.
- Not sure a page matches? The audience debugger tells you for every published item.
