Tooltips

A hint attached to one element, behind a pulsing beacon or opened on hover or click.

A tooltip explains one control in place: a new filter, a setting people miss, a button that moved. It waits next to its element and doesn't interrupt anyone.

Build one

  1. Set the URL pattern and the element's CSS selector. Use a stable selector (an id or a data- attribute) so it survives UI changes. The Chrome extension picks elements for you.
  2. Write a short title and a one- or two-sentence body.
  3. Choose how it opens: a pulsing beacon people click, on hover, or automatically.
  4. Choose how it closes, for example with its button or by clicking outside it.
  5. Set the audience and frequency, preview, and publish.

Tooltips don't count toward the workspace's pop-up limits, so they can sit alongside a tour or survey.

Automate it

  • REST API: /api/tooltips. See the API reference.
  • AI agents: create_tooltip, with selectors from find_elements. See MCP tools.
